The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, SBA School of Sciences and Engineering is seeking applications to fill in the position(s) of Research Assistant(s)/Fellow(s) to carry out research in the field of organic/bioorganic and medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will involve in the project that focuses on designing and syntheses of small organic molecules, testing their biological activities using 96-well plate biochemical assays, and delineating the atomic level details of protien-ligand interactions using computational methods. The ultimate goal of the project is (1) to discover or identify potential viral protease inhibitors by targeting dengue virus/SARS-COV-2/HCV proteases; (2) to optimize the intermolecular interactions between ligand and protease to facilitate structure-activity relationship (SAR) study; (3) to discover and develop antiviral therapeutics by following the philosophy of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) drugs.
The Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include organic syntheses of heterocycles and carbocycles under ambient as well as controlled/inert environment. You will purify, characterize spectroscopically and analyze small organic molecules in biochemical assays. You will also report the aquired spectroscopic (extensive NMR assignments), biological activity data (percent inhibition, dose response, mode of inhibition etc), and computational modeling in weekly group meetings.
